Roma Victor (can one ever have read it enough?)
I am currently reading “At the Edge of the Empire” once again. I remain enthusiastic about this exceptionally well-researched work. I can recommend it to anyone interested in the subject (the map showing the stations of a legionary’s service is particularly fascinating) – I am delighted!

Although I do not consider myself an experienced critic, I would nevertheless like to give my personal assessment of this book. Some so-called critics judge things they do not know or have never demonstrated that they could do better themselves. The level often suffers as a result, and room for objectivity becomes smaller. A book cannot be judged by its title, length or material value. If I buy a dictionary, I do not expect entertainment, and if I buy a novel, I do not expect statistics or similar material.
Before buying Roma Victor, I first made enquiries and requested a reading sample via the homepage. What I was looking for seemed to be provided, so I bought the book and was not disappointed at all. Quite the contrary: my expectations were fully met. The page count is correct, the pictures are informative and the text is suitable for every age group, as announced.
Conclusion: If a reader is looking for a quick overview of the Roman legion and wants precise answers to many important questions, Roma Victor is an unusual but refreshingly different book. I regard it as a supplement to other works and am happy to add it to my extensive collection.

For a planned lecture, I initially searched for suitable reading material. In many works, including libraries, I first had to spend hours searching for the information I needed, and only rarely did I find what I was looking for, much to my disappointment. I discovered the book Roma Victor on Amazon. At first I was surprised by the many reviews, because the relatively young work obviously seemed to attract a great deal of attention. For this reason I read all the book reviews and the available information about the book. Since the information and value for money seemed more than reasonable and interesting, I ordered the book. I enjoyed reading Roma Victor very much, and it answered all my questions precisely.
The author has formulated and addressed sensitive subjects partly with empathy and also very cautiously. Everything promised by the published information was completely delivered. The text is very pleasant to read and suitable for all age groups. The compact presentation of numerical data is excellent, as are the scenarios described. In my opinion, the book fortunately does not fit into any existing or familiar direction and therefore competes with no book I know. Roma Victor is very independent, informs quickly and efficiently, yet leaves every reader enough room for their own imagination. The existence of a homepage with the same name is also pleasing. Many further questions are answered there, and the site is continually expanded with new images and information. Even personal questions are answered.
My personal conclusion: The purchase was and remains more than worthwhile, because all promises were kept. I therefore give Roma Victor the highest rating without reservation!

Great book – not too long and yet very comprehensive
An entertaining and informative book that I can warmly recommend to anyone interested.
