The homepage is based on the book of the same name. The work was first published in October 2003; the second edition followed in September 2005, the third in 2007, the fourth in 2012 and the fifth in January 2020. It deals explicitly with the subject of the Roman legion. More than 63 pages answer many questions and are supplemented by 31 illustrations. The sixth version was published in 2026, comprising 93 pages and featuring new images. Great importance was placed on presenting the most important topics precisely while making the work accessible to all age groups and readerships.

The book provides information on legionary bases, troop strength, equipment and weapons, camp construction and frontier defence, ranks, battle formations, cavalry and naval affairs. It also analyses several military events, highlights important details and, in some cases, presents them through short episodes.

The homepage is intended as a supplement to the book. New archaeological and scientific findings as well as many readers’ questions will enrich this website in the future.
